1. Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Knowtify Android application (“App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and End User License Agreement (“Agreement”). You accept this Agreement by tapping “Agree” in the App. The Effective Date at the top of this Agreement identifies the version you accepted. If you do not agree to all the terms of this Agreement, do not install or use the App.
Google Play: Google Play terms of service also govern your use of Google Play to download the App and make purchases. Google is not a party to this Agreement and has no obligation to maintain or support the App. Knowtify LLC is responsible for the App and for the support described in this Agreement.
2. License Grant and Restrictions
Scope of License: Knowtify LLC grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on a compatible Android device that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.
Ownership: You acknowledge that you do not obtain any ownership rights in the App, underlying Matter/CHIP libraries, source code, or Knowtify branding. Knowtify LLC and its licensors reserve all rights not expressly granted in this Agreement. Third-party and open-source components remain the property of their owners, as described in Section 8.
Restrictions: Except as applicable law or an open-source license governing a component of the App permits, you may not (a) copy, modify, or distribute the App, (b) sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or transfer the App to anyone else, (c) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, (d) remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice, (e) interfere with or disrupt the App or any device or network you are not authorized to control, or (f) use the App for any unlawful purpose.
Modifications to Service: Knowtify LLC reserves the right to update, modify, limit, suspend, or withdraw the App (or any features thereof) at any time subject to the purchased-feature protections in Section 10 and the notice terms in Section 15.
3. Functionality and User Responsibilities
App Permissions and Operation: Upon tapping “Agree” within the App and granting Android Notification Access, Knowtify reads limited information from notifications posted by applications you explicitly enable and uses it to change your smart lights.
Processing Scope: By default, the App processes only this notification metadata: the sending app name, notification category, and ongoing status. If you enable Uber or Lyft as a trigger, the App also reads the title of those notifications on your device only to detect the word “arriving.” The App does not store that title text or send it off your device. The App does not save notification text. Knowtify LLC does not operate servers that receive or store App data.
Customizations and Mappings: You may map various communications and applications (including SMS, phone, email, calls, and other installed apps) to specific colors and brightness levels. User preferences such as pulse patterns, quiet hours, and short-notification durations are stored locally on your device and may be included in Android backups or device transfers if your device settings allow them.
Supported Hardware and Third-Party Integrations: The App supports Govee, WiZ, and LIFX devices over local Wi-Fi, Matter over local commissioning, and optional Google Home via Google’s Home APIs (which requires your Google account and may involve a hub or Google’s cloud). Supported brands, devices, and integrations may change when manufacturers or Google change their products, firmware, or APIs. Knowtify LLC does not guarantee that any particular device will connect, commission, or remain compatible.
- You acknowledge that hardware like Govee, WiZ, and LIFX require initial setup through their respective manufacturer applications.
- You must own or have explicit legal authorization to control the smart lights and local network infrastructure you connect to the App, and you may enable monitoring only for applications you are authorized to access.
4. Data Privacy and Third-Party Services
Local-First Architecture: Knowtify operates on a local-first basis. There are no Knowtify user accounts. Configuration settings remain on your device. Optional crash reporting is described under “Diagnostics” below.
Notification Content: The App does not store notification text or transmit it to Knowtify LLC or any service provider.
Location Permission: Location permission or the nearby Wi-Fi devices permission, depending on your Android version, is used only to read your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) to identify the correct home network profile, and is never used to track your physical GPS location.
Diagnostics: If you opt in to share crash reports, the App sends diagnostic data to Google through Firebase Crashlytics: installation identifiers, crash traces, device model, operating system version, app version, and the app name, notification category, and ongoing status of notifications involved in a crash. These reports intentionally omit notification text, Wi-Fi names, and bulb IP/MAC addresses.
Third-Party Terms: Google Home, Google Play Services, Govee, WiZ, LIFX, and Firebase operate independently under their own terms and privacy policies, which govern their services. The Knowtify Privacy Policy is available at knowtifyapp.io/privacy. Knowtify LLC exercises no control over third-party networks, firmware, APIs, or cloud uptime.
5. Disclaimers and Safety Limitations
Not a Safety Device: Knowtify is not a medical, fire, life-safety, or emergency alert device. The connected smart lights serve solely as a visual secondary cue. They do not replace smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, medical-alert hardware, hearing-aid systems, or professional emergency services. Do not rely on the App in any situation where a missed or delayed light alert could lead to injury, death, or property damage.
Best-Effort Delivery: Notification delivery and light actuation are provided on a best-effort basis. Android operating system battery optimization policies, lock-screen states, Wi-Fi connectivity drops, Doze mode, and Google Home’s unlocked-screen requirements may delay, interrupt, or skip light changes.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, except the commitments expressly stated in this Agreement. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Knowtify LLC disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. This section does not limit any warranty right that applicable law does not allow a contract to exclude.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall Knowtify LLC, its members, managers, officers, or employees be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of data or loss of use arising out of or in connection with your use of the App. Knowtify LLC has no liability beyond the cap stated below for missed, late, incorrect, or failed light alerts, or for failures of third-party hardware, firmware, networks, or cloud services.
Knowtify LLC’s total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to this Agreement or the App will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the App during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50. This limit applies to all claims combined, under any legal theory.
The exclusions and limits in this Section 7 do not apply to liability resulting from Knowtify LLC’s gross negligence or willful misconduct, or to any liability that applicable law does not allow a party to limit or exclude. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limits may not apply to you. This section does not limit any refund right you have under Google Play policies or applicable law.
8. Third-Party and Open Source Code
The App utilizes certain third-party components and open-source libraries (including, but not limited to, Matter/CHIP connectivity frameworks). These components are provided “as is” and are governed by their respective open-source licenses. Nothing in this Agreement restricts, limits, or otherwise affects any rights or obligations you may have under any applicable open-source licenses pertaining to third-party code contained in the App.
9. AI-Assisted Development Disclaimer
Knowtify LLC used artificial intelligence (AI) tools during the coding, design, and development of this App. The warranty disclaimer in Section 6 applies to all parts of the App, including code developed with AI assistance.
10. Pricing and Paid Access
Knowtify operates on a tiered pricing model managed exclusively through the Google Play Store:
- Free Tier ($0): Grants basic access to notification mapping and standard light controls.
- Pro Tier ($5): A one-time purchase unlocking expanded functionality, increased light controls, and advanced routing capabilities.
- Premium Tier ($10): A one-time purchase granting full, unrestricted access to all app features and maximum device integration capacities.
Purchases and Access: Pro and Premium tiers are sold as single, one-time purchases for lifetime access on your Google Play account. For purchases made after this definition first appears in this Agreement, “lifetime” means for as long as Knowtify LLC offers and supports the App on Google Play. Earlier purchases keep the access described when they were made. If you reinstall the app or switch devices using the same Google Play account, you can restore your purchases through the app. Knowtify LLC may add new features, decide which tier includes them, and update how features work. Knowtify LLC will not materially reduce a feature you already purchased unless a change by Google, a device manufacturer, or another third-party platform, or a change in law, requires it. If Knowtify LLC stops offering or supporting the App, Knowtify LLC will post notice in the App or at knowtifyapp.io where practicable. Google Play processes all billing, upgrades, and purchase restorations, and Google Play refund policies apply to refund requests. For refund or purchase-support questions, you may also contact Knowtify LLC at customerservice@knowtifyapp.io. Knowtify LLC does not collect or store financial data.
11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
Governing Law: This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Hampshire, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action or proceeding arising out of or relating to this Agreement shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Hampshire that have subject-matter jurisdiction. This Section does not take away any consumer protection that the law where you live gives you and that a contract cannot waive.
12. Age and Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum legal age in your jurisdiction) to download and use the App. If you are at least 13 but under 18, you may use the App only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who has reviewed and agrees to this Agreement.
13. Termination
Termination by You: You may terminate this Agreement at any time by permanently uninstalling the App from your device and deleting all local configurations. Uninstalling the App does not cancel a paid purchase. If you reinstall the App with the same Google Play account, you can restore your purchase, and this Agreement applies again. Upon termination, all licenses granted to you under this Agreement will immediately cease.
Termination by Knowtify LLC: Knowtify LLC may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach this Agreement or use the App without authorization, including monitoring applications or controlling devices or networks you are not authorized to access. Knowtify LLC will give you notice first where practicable and will act in proportion to the breach.
Survival: The Ownership and Restrictions terms in Section 2 and Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 14, and 16 survive termination of this Agreement. Termination does not delete crash reports already sent to Firebase, which follow the retention practices described in the Privacy Policy.
14. Indemnification
Your Responsibility for Misuse: You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Knowtify LLC and its members, managers, and employees from third-party claims, damages, and reasonable legal fees resulting from (a) your monitoring of applications or control of devices or networks you are not authorized to access, (b) your unlawful use of the App, or (c) your intentional or negligent breach of this Agreement. This Section does not apply to the extent a claim results from Knowtify LLC’s own negligence, misconduct, or breach, or where applicable law does not allow it.
15. Changes to This Agreement
Updates: Knowtify LLC may update this Agreement. Knowtify LLC will post the updated Agreement at knowtifyapp.io with a new Effective Date. For material changes, the App will display notice of the change and ask you to accept the updated Agreement before you continue using the App. Changes do not affect claims that arose before the change and do not reduce a feature you already purchased, except as Section 10 permits.
16. General Terms
Entire Agreement: This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and Knowtify LLC about the App and replaces any earlier understanding about it. The Knowtify Privacy Policy explains how Knowtify handles data.
Severability: If a court finds any part of this Agreement unenforceable, that part will be enforced to the maximum extent the law allows, and the rest of this Agreement remains in effect.
No Waiver: If Knowtify LLC does not enforce a provision, it keeps the right to enforce that provision later.
Assignment: You may not transfer this Agreement. Knowtify LLC may assign this Agreement to a successor to its business or the App if the successor agrees to be bound by Knowtify LLC’s obligations under this Agreement, including Section 10.
